The Sports Technology Institute is home to the world's largest university-based sports technology research group. Working with over 20 brands, research is conducted into the engineering design of sports equipment, fitness products, apparel and footwear across a wide range of sports. Golf has been at the core of our research programme and over the last 25 years, numerous projects have been conducted, including:

  • Biomechanical analysis of the golf swing
  • Computer aided design of a golf clubhead
  • Finite element analysis of a golf club / ball impact
  • Human perception of golf equipment quality
  • Impulsive sound quality in golf
  • Junior golf equipment
  • The role of the grip in golf
  • Robotic simulation of golf swings
